Exercise your RITES!

 

Off-Road:  Two trail loops and one ATV loop w/cutoff ranging from 5 to 136 miles.  New Gas/party store on trail.  See event map.  Wide Variety of great terrain - fun for all!

 

Dual Sport:  We are working on our first non-licensed dual sport route, designed for adults and young adults.(See update below.)  We also have one of the C.C.C.’s best dual sport routes in place with challenging two tracks and excellent scenic views.  This route is the best the Atlanta area has to offer!  Bring your camera for photos in the natural splendor of Michigan’s elk country.  Must meet ORV, spark, and 94db sound check requirements.  Route sheets, map and GPS info. all at sign-up.

 

DUAL SPORT UPDATE:  THE C.C.C. HAS INSTRUCTED THE CAPITOL CHAPTER THAT THE DUAL SPORT RIDES HAVE TO BE LICENSED MOTORCYCLES.  THEREFORE THE ‘NON-LICENSED’ DUAL SPORT ROUTE IS CANCELLED.

 

Kid’s Loop:  Made especially for the younger families.

 

Rider Education:  All riders under age 16 - safety training certificate is required.  Call the C.C.C. office at 517-781-4805 for class registration.

 

Camping:  Fairgrounds are not open until Friday morning.  Campers arriving on Friday - $20.  Campers arriving on Saturday - $10.  Day Parking - $5.  Fires in designated fire rings.  If you have one, bring it to the ride (fire danger status permitting). 

 

Pool:  In Atlanta at the A Win-Sands Motel - $3 for two hours for C.C.C. members.

 

Meals:  Concessions will be on site - Saturday with hot dogs, hamburgers, etc.  Breakfast Saturday morning - price TBA.

Non-Licensed Route to and from Atlanta:  There will be a non-licensed route from the campgrounds to Atlanta and back from the trail down the side of the road.  (The route has changed some.)

 

NOTICE:  NO RIDING ON M 33 INTO OR OUT OF ATLANTA WITH A NON-LICENSED VEHICLE.  THIS IS A STATE ROAD AND RIDING ON IT WITH A NON-LICENSED VEHICLE IS A TICKET-ABLE OFFENSE.

 

Q:  What are the general operating standards?

 

A:  Operation must be to the far right of the maintained portion of the road or street.  An ORV may not be operated against the flow of traffic.  The maximum speed of operation is 25mph unless a lower speed limit has been posted.  An ORV may not interfere with other traffic on the road or street.  ORV’s must travel single file except when passing.

 

Q:  Are headlights/taillights required to operate an ORV on a road or street?

 

A:  Prior to January 1, 2010 a person must display a lighted headlight and taillight when visibility is reduced.  Beginning January 1, 2010 any ORV operating on the road at any time must display a lighted headlight and taillight.

 

Q:  What are the permitted hours of operation?

 

A:  Operation is permitted at all hours.  A lighted headlight and taillight must be used from 1/2 hour after sunset to 1/2 hour before sunrise.

 

Q:  How old does a child have to be to operate and ORV on a road?

 

A:  A person under age 12 may not operate an ORV on a street or road.  A child age 12, 13, 14, and 15 may operate an ORV on a road under the direct visual supervision of an adult and has in their immediate possession an ORV safety certificate.  Children younger than 16 may not operate a 3-wheeled ORV or an ORV wider than 60” on a road.  A child age 16 or 17 may operate without direct visual supervision provided they have a valid drivers license and an ORV safety certificate in their possession.  Michigan will recognize an ORV safety certificate issued by other state or a province of Canada.

 

Q:  Who is at fault in the event of an accident?

 

A:  In the event an ORV is in an accident with another vehicle legally permitted to operate on the road or street, the owner of the ORV shal be considered prima facia negligent.  The owner of an ORV does not qualify for no-fault/PIP benefits in the event of a single vehicle accident or an accident with another ORV.

 

Q:  What is the penalty for violating an ORV ordinance?

 

A: The penalty is a municipal civil infraction with a fine of not more than $500 and/or damages to repair any damage to the environment, street, road, or other public property.  The fine and damages shall be deposited into the local ORV fund.

 

Q:  What is the penalty for creating an erosive condition or violating state environmental law?

 

A:  The penalty is a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 90 days and/or a fine of not less than $250 or more than $1000 for each violation.
